Development

The Development Department is a key component in developing and promoting Craigavon as a prosperous, attractive place to live, work, visit and do business. Our aim is “to build sustainable communities and create economic prosperity for the citizens of Craigavon”.

The Department works under two broad themes of Community Development and Economic Development.

Community Development

Under this diverse label we offer Town Hall and Community Centre facilities, activities including Play schemes, support for Community Associations both urban and rural and deliver of funding programmes across the Borough including DSD’s Local Community Fund and our own Grant Aid and Neighbourhood Festival Schemes.

Community Development Section also facilitates the Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships on behalf of Department for Social Development, carries out Good Relations work and delivers the EU Peace III theme ‘Investing in Our Future’ for the Southern Cluster Partnership, while also leading the Craigavon Community Safety Partnership.

In addition, the District Policing Partnership also rests within the Development Department.

Economic Development

Key priorities within Economic Development are support for industries and businesses of the Borough, through initiatives such as Retail Seminars and Jobs Fair, as well as promoting urban regeneration and development through facilitating the Public Realm schemes in Lurgan and Portadown. Details on Economic Development initiatives can be found on www.e-craigavon.com

Additionally, the Economic Development section is working to maximise the tourism potential of the Borough through various publications. Visit www.discovercraigavon.com for more information.

Craigavon Borough Council is also the lead representative with financial and administrative responsibility for the £17 million NI Rural Development Fund in the Southern Cluster area. Further detail can be obtained from www.soarni.org .
