Key Objective:

  • To enhance the Health Safety and welfare of all persons at work and to protect those who may be exposed to risks arising from work activities in the premises for which the Council are the Enforcing authority.

What we do

  • We raise awareness of health and safety issues; providing help and advice to business owners, employees and members of the public, mainly by inspecting workplaces, investigating accident and complaints and registering certain types of businesses.
  •  Making sure health and safety law is complied with is a shared responsibility with the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland, who inspect manufacturing, construction, agriculture, education, transport and hospitals

The Environmental Health Department undertakes the Council Statutory obligations under the Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978 by:
