The Council recognises its responsibility as a major purchaser of goods and services. The Council has adopted a green purchasing policy which aims to integrate environmental consideration into the purchasing process with the goal of reducing the impact of our purchases on human health and the environment.

ICLEI Europe

ICLEI Global

In 1999 we adopted our Green Purchasing Policy to ensure that suppliers meet our environmental criteria, in order to reduce their environmental impact while providing a service for Craigavon Borough Council.

When applying for tenders you will be asked to rate your environmental performance and describe the procedures you have in place to minimize any environmental impact. For further information click on the link below.

Green Purchasing Policy (1999)

The purpose of the policy is to encourage companies to be more environmentally friendly. We ideally are looking for suppliers that:

  • Have in place or working towards an Environmental Policy.
  • Have a person specifically responsible for the environment.
  • Have in place or working towards the implementation of an Environmental Management System.

For further information on our green purchasing policy or help on how your business can meet these requirements for the purpose of tendering, contact our Environmental Services Development Team
