The provision of an online facility is in line with the EU Services Directive which came into force on 28th December 2009. The Directive was implemented into UK law by the Provision of Services Regulations 2009. The directive aims to break down barriers to cross-border trade in services between Member States, making it easier for service providers such as local authorities to set up business and offer their services elsewhere within the European Economic Area (EEA).
