New Sports Strategy for Craigavon
A plan to increase sport participation across Craigavon for the next four years is now available from www.craigavon.gov.uk.
Craigavon Borough Council’s Sports Development Unit has produced “Sport Craigavon” over the past 10 months in consultation with local sports clubs, groups and statutory agencies.
The strategy will increase sports participation through its four themes of developing Sporting Communities; Sporting Partnerships; Sporting Governance and Sporting Excellence.
“This is the second strategy that Sports Development Unit has produced”, comments Chairman of Leisure Services Committee Alderman Meta Crozer, “ the Unit is very proactive and from 2006-2010 secured over £500,000 of funding for sport development programmes across Craigavon, with a further £222,000 sourced directly for local clubs and groups to help with their sporting activities.
“The work by both the Sports Development section and Craigavon Sports Advisory Council reflects the passion for participation in sport and physical activity as well as the increased benefits to people from a health and well being perspective.’
The new strategy was officially launched at the recent Annual General Meeting of Craigavon Sports Advisory Council where the vision for the service over the next four years was presented to local sports clubs and representatives in attendance.
The full strategic document is available to download from the Council website or is available on request from the Sports Development Unit on 028 3831 1691.
