A specially designed treasure trail linking local history with retail getting more people to shop locally is set to take Lurgan by storm.
The Lurgan Treasure Trail starting in November runs until March 2012 with a trail to solve every month. People can explore the shops and local history, solve clues and discover some surprises along the way.
With 40 retailers involved lots of prizes and rewards are up for grabs!! Every month people can use a loyalty card included in the trail to redeem discounts and freebies from participating retailers. Look out for the Lurgan Treasure Trail Retailer sticker in shop windows. They can also enter into a monthly prize draw online to win a £20-£30 voucher from a local retailer. Come March there is also an opportunity to win £500 worth of voucher from local retailers.

“This is a truly exciting trail and I would encourage everyone to get involved, have some fun and explore Lurgan. This is a great town with so much on offer. The opportunity to win prizes and redeem rewards along the way is a great incentive,” comments Chair of Craigavon Borough Council’s Development Committee Councillor Carla Lockhart, “ this project is another great example of Council working in partnership with local retailers to promote Lurgan raising the profile our unique town as a place to visit, shop and enjoy”.
The concept of a treasure trail has been used before in other places, but the retail aspect is unique to Lurgan. Lurgan Treasure Trail has been designed by the company Treasure Trails, a Craigavon Business Innovation Award Winner 2010.
"The Restore scheme aims to help our local retailers with new initiatives in both physical improvements and marketing, This treasure hunt appeals to people of all ages. It’s a great chance for local people and others from further afield to explore Lurgan whilst shopping and get rewarded!”, says Simon Dowey, Vice-Chairman Chamber of Commerce, “Lookout for trail stickers in shop windows!”.
The Lurgan Treasure Trail is funded by the Department for Social Development as part of the Lurgan Re:Store Project – improving the visitor and shopper awareness of what Lurgan has to offer. Lurgan Re:Store is driven by a Committee which is a partnership of local businesses,Craigavon Borough Council and DSD.
