Take a step back in time and experience life on the home front during World War II at Craigavon Museum’s fascinating exhibition ‘Oh you do know there’s a war on?”
Located at Waterside House on Oxford Island, the enthralling display showcases how locals handled the constant threat of attack, the crippling effects of wartime rationing and highlights the variety of ways in which they contributed to the war effort such as joining voluntary services or collecting scrap metal.
A wealth of unique wartime memorabilia is on display including artefacts, posters, films and photographs from the WWII era, bringing to life how the war impinged on the local area.
The exhibition will be open to the public until the 25th February 2012, Monday-Saturday between 10am and 4pm and admission is free.
In addition, the Museum is also providing two ‘Oh you do know there’s a war on?” outreach programmes which local groups and schools across the Borough can avail off. The first is a 1940s loan box, which has a £5.00 hire charge. This box contains all sorts of fascinating objects from the time, and is ideal for use in projects run by community or school groups.
The second is a ‘Life on the Home Front’ outreach session for primary schools. This interactive outreach session is delivered in the classroom by Museum staff and allows pupils to handle objects from this era. Each session lasts two hours and costs £35. Advance booking is essential for both these programmes.
Groups are also welcome to book tours of the exhibition by contacting the Museum.
